Sega Master System

Sega Master System was Sega's first console in the US and was introduced in June 1986. Sega Master System was an 8-bit cartridge based system made to compete head to head with the NES. THe oringinal mascot was Alex Kidd, but in 1991 Sonic The Hedgehog became the new mascot due to the popularity of the Genesis. Sega then reissued the system as the smaller Master System II and issued Sonic The Hedgehog games for it. The Sega Master System never took that many market shares away from Nintendo but did sell over 13 million units.
