Sega Saturn
The Sega Saturn may go down in history as Sega's biggest failure, but not because it wasn't a good system. Sega had originally announced that September 2, 1995 would be the release date of the Sega Saturn. Yet at the first E3 in May of 1995 they surprised everyone by saying that date was just a ruse and that the system would launch just a few days later on May 11 to select retailers. Since many third party developers were not ready for this release date there were almost no games available at launch. Also, many retailers such as Wal-Mart and KB Toys were left out of the loop for the launch and felt betrayed. This led to these retailers boycotting the Sega Saturn almost altogether or making less space available for the console and its games on their shelves. Despite this there was a small hardcore fanbase for the system due to near perfect arcade ports such as X-Men vs Street Fighter and orignal titles such as Panzer Dragoon and Nights Into Dreams.
