Atari 2600
The Atari 2600 was first released in October 1977 and retailed for $199 at the time. It is credited for making the use of game cartridges popular rather than having the games built in. The system was typically bundled with two joystick controllers, a conjoined pair of paddle controllers, and a copy of the game Combat which was later changed to Pac-Man. The system saw a huge success in the early 80's but due to an overly saturated market the popularity died out by the mid 80's. Today there is still a following for the system for people who remember the early days of gaming at home and look back on it fondly.
